Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay?
Three full sets — telc, state exam B1 and state exam B2 — are free and need no card. The whole library costs 129 zł for 90 days.
Which exam should I take?
For citizenship only the state exam counts. For the EU residence card and for university, either one, from B1 or B2. The differences are set out on the comparison page.
Who marks the writing?
A language model, against four criteria of five points — not an examiner. You get points, the reason for each and corrections from your own text.
Is there an oral part?
On telc, yes: the examiner asks by voice and a language model marks the conversation from a transcript, so pronunciation only indirectly. The state exam's oral part is not marked here.
How long does the exam take?
The telc written part is 115 minutes, with the result in 4–6 weeks (telc's figure). The state exam is up to 190 minutes at B1 and up to 250 at B2, and marking takes 3–4 months.
