The EU long-term resident card needs a B1 certificate in Polish
Both exams count — telc and the state certificate exam — from B1. Here you sit the whole written paper under the exam clock, in the format of whichever you pick.
- The whole written paper under the clock, in your exam's format.
- Scored against B1 — the mark the resident card takes.
- After every attempt: how far off you are, and what to drill.
You can start with a single part — the shortest is twenty minutes. Sign in and you get three full sets free, no card asked for: telc, state B1 and state B2.
Which certificate the office acceptsB1
Both exams count for the card, from B1: telc and the state certificate exam. Pick whichever you can pass — the application treats them alike.
The regulation of 31 May 2023 added telc to the accepted certificates; the state certificate exam has always counted here. Confirm the current requirement with the office handling your case before paying for an exam.
How the two exams differWhich of the two to sit
Two things decide it: what happens to your weakest part, and how much time you have before the card decision. Both are set out on one page, with the fees and the dates.
Compare the two examsThis is what your result looks like
After every attempt the score stands beside the B1 bar — the one that counts for the card — and it stands part by part, not as one number. Below, an example: nine points short of B2, and most of them were lost on reading.
Worth passing first time
- The exam is 800–1200 zł, depending on the centre.
- telc: the result takes 4 to 6 weeks (telc's figure), plus up to two weeks before the centre hands it over. State exam: marking takes 3 to 4 months, plus up to 30 days for the certificate.
- Miss the mark and the next state sitting is months away, while many telc centres examine every month — there it is the wait for the result that limits you.
An attempt here costs 115 minutes on telc or up to 190 on the state B1, and nothing else. Repeat it as many times as it takes before you pay for that one.
Start with one module
The full exam is 115 minutes with no breaks. Start with one module — the shortest runs twenty minutes — and work up to the whole paper.
