Bars of the state Polish exam — B1, B2 and the other levels
Three things that decide everything else on this page: you register for one level, every part counts on its own, and the bar is a percentage rather than a number of points.
From B1 up every part has its own bar, and each has to be cleared on its own. One part below it sinks the whole sitting, however well the rest went. At A2 and at the levels for children the written parts count together, and the oral exam apart.
Every sitting carries slightly different points in its parts. So the bar is worked out from the paper you are actually sitting, rather than from one table covering every year.

The written paper runs to no more than 190 minutes, straight through. The oral is a separate appointment before the commission, up to 15 minutes. At B2 the bar is 60% and the written paper runs to 250 minutes.
The board publishes one time for the whole written paper, with no split between blocks.
Common questions
How long does the exam take?
The written paper runs straight through: up to 190 minutes at B1 and up to 250 at B2. The oral is a separate appointment before the commission. The timings for all seven levels are in the table above.
What if one part falls below the bar?
From B1 up the sitting is not passed, whatever the other results. The total rescues nothing here — which is why the score is shown part by part rather than as one number.
Will a telc certificate do instead of the state one?
For citizenship, no — only the state certificate counts there. For the EU long-term resident card, yes, from B1 (regulation of 31 May 2023), and for a degree taught in Polish from B2 (regulation of 30 July 2025). Confirm the requirement with whoever is asking for the certificate.
When are the results out?
Marking and verification usually take three to four months from the exam, and the certificate is issued within 30 days of the protocol with the final results. We have set the whole cycle, from registering to holding the document, out separately.
Every figure on this page comes from there, along with the sitting dates and the papers from earlier years.
