How to write an ogłoszenie in Polish: a template and examples from the B1 exam
Published 28 October 2026
An announcement has four parts: a heading (Sprzedam, Zaginął, Szukam), what it is and what it is like, the terms — price, place, date — and a contact. In the state B1 exam it is one of the short texts to choose from: a set with an announcement is on every one of the 14 papers in the library, and the task asks for 25–50 words.
In short
- On each of the 14 B1 papers, one of the three sets to choose from opens with an announcement; at B2, on 2 of 9.
- What about: selling something 6 times, looking for someone (a worker, a teacher, a flatmate) 4 times, something lost 3 times, a concert once.
- Length: 25 to 50 words, depending on the paper. The figure printed by the task is the one that counts.
Where is the announcement in the exam?
In the state exam's writing part you write two texts from one set, and the paper offers three sets to choose from. The first text is short, the second long. At B1 an announcement is the short text of one set on each of the 14 papers in the library — you need not choose it, but it is always there. The rules list the announcement among the written forms at B1 and B2.
How long the state exam's texts are
The range across the papers in the library. The limit printed by the task is the one that counts.
The task says what you announce and where: "in a newspaper", "on a website", "to put up in the neighbourhood", "on the board at a language school". Sometimes it adds what must be in it — the working conditions, say, or what you will and will not accept in the flat. Whatever the task names has to be in the text.
How to build an announcement
- A heading that says what it is about: Sprzedam…, Zaginął…, Szukam…, Zapraszamy na….
- What it is and what it is like: the thing and its condition, the animal and how it looks, the person and what you expect of them.
- The terms: price, place, date, hours — whatever a reader would ask.
- A contact: a phone number or an e-mail address, and when to call.

How is an announcement marked?
The B1 paper prints three criteria for the whole writing part: task completion (10 points), range (10) and accuracy (10) — 30 points for both texts together. How much of that falls to the announcement alone the Commission does not publish. In practice: write everything the task asks for, in the form of an announcement, not a letter.
An announcement is not a letter: no "Drodzy Państwo", no "chciał(a)bym poinformować", no greetings and no signature. It has a heading and a contact.
What the whole writing part looks like, with the second, long text: writing in the state exam. If the long text is a story: the story at B1.
