How to write a rozprawka in Polish: the argumentative text for B2 (model)

Published 29 October 2026

A rozprawka (argumentative text) defends one position. In the opening you state your thesis — "Uważam, że…" — then give two or three arguments, each with an example, answer the strongest counter-argument and end with a conclusion that confirms the thesis. That is the difference from the essay: an essay reflects, a rozprawka persuades.

In short

  • Five parts: an opening with the thesis, two or three arguments with examples, a counter-argument and your answer, a conclusion confirming the thesis.
  • In the state exam: at B1 — not on that level's list of forms; at B2 — on 8 of the 9 papers in the library, as the long text, 250–270 words.

The regulation lists the "rozprawka (argumentative text)" only among the B2 forms. The papers set a question or a quotation — "Czy pieniądze są najważniejszym czynnikiem motywującym w pracy?", "Czy posiadanie majątku daje wolność?" — and ask for a text giving your opinion.

When does this form come up in the exam?

  • At B1 — not on that level's list of forms
  • At B2 — on 8 of the 9 papers in the library, as the long text, 250–270 words

In the state exam's writing part you write two texts — a short one and a long one — from one of three sets to choose from, so you never have to pick this form. The paper prints three criteria for the whole part: task, range and accuracy — 30 points at B1 and 40 at B2 for both texts together. How that splits between the texts, the Commission does not publish. The whole writing part is described on writing.

How do you write a rozprawka, step by step?

  1. Opening: introduce the subject in one sentence and state your thesis — "Uważam, że…".
  2. First argument with an example: from life, from observation, from facts.
  3. Second (and third) argument with an example — each in its own paragraph.
  4. Counter-argument: quote the other side and answer it — "Przeciwnicy twierdzą, że…, jednak…".
  5. Ending: sum up the arguments and confirm the thesis.

A model rozprawka (258 words)

Wiele firm pozwala pracować zdalnie, więc do biura wystarczy jeździć raz w tygodniu albo rzadziej.

A thesis in the opening, three arguments, a counter-argument with an answer and an ending that returns to the thesis. The text is ours, not a paper's. Connectives like "ponieważ", "jednak", "dlatego" are also tested in the grammar part — see grammar at B1.

Common questions

How is a rozprawka different from an esej?

A rozprawka defends one thesis with arguments and reaches a conclusion. An essay sets out reflections and may leave the question open — see [the esej](/poradnik/esej).

Does a rozprawka need a counter-argument?

The brief does not demand one, but answering the other side strengthens the thesis.

Is the rozprawka in the B1 exam?

No: the regulation lists it only among the B2 forms.
