How to write a zawiadomienie (notice) in Polish: a short-text model

Published 29 October 2026

A zawiadomienie (official notice) is a short, matter-of-fact text informing a group of people of a fact: a water cut, a meeting, new opening hours, a library closing. It answers what, when, where and why, says what readers are expected to do, and ends with the sender's name. It does not sell, invite or tell a story — it informs.

In short

  • Six elements: a heading, what will happen, when and where, why, a request to readers, the sender.
  • Official style: "uprzejmie informujemy", "nastąpi", "zostanie zamknięty", no emotion.
  • In the state exam: at B1 — on the regulation's list of forms, but on none of the 14 papers in the library; at B2 — on the regulation's list of forms, but on none of the 9 papers in the library.

A zawiadomienie is easily confused with an ogłoszenie and an invitation. An ogłoszenie comes from a private person looking for or selling something — see the ogłoszenie. An invitation invites — the zaproszenie. A zawiadomienie informs of a fact, usually on behalf of an institution: building management, a school, a company.

When does this form come up in the exam?

  • At B1 — on the regulation's list of forms, but on none of the 14 papers in the library
  • At B2 — on the regulation's list of forms, but on none of the 9 papers in the library

In the state exam's writing part you write two texts — a short one and a long one — from one of three sets to choose from, so you never have to pick this form. The paper prints three criteria for the whole part: task, range and accuracy — 30 points at B1 and 40 at B2 for both texts together. How that splits between the texts, the Commission does not publish. The whole writing part is described on writing.

How do you write a zawiadomienie, step by step?

  1. Heading: "ZAWIADOMIENIE" or "UWAGA, MIESZKAŃCY!".
  2. What will happen: "Uprzejmie informujemy, że…", "Zawiadamiamy, że…".
  3. When and where: the exact date, hours, address.
  4. Why: "z powodu…", "w związku z…".
  5. What readers should do, and the sender: "Prosimy o…", "Administracja budynku".
